The Cricket World Cup final between India and Australia ended in a heartbreak for all cricket fans across the country. However, the run up to the match as well as the hours of the match set some records. Disney Hotstar saw concurrent live viewership touch 5.9 crore, an all-time high and a new world record. Similarly for quick-service restaurantsand delivery platforms, it was a day of blockbuster sales.From cola and chips to burgers, beer, coconuts and puja flowers, companies saw sales booming on Sunday, November 19, as India took on Australia in the Cricket World Cup final.
As the match was still in progress, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart and Blinkit said that they were on course to record their highest daily sales. This includes the sales of Indian jerseys as well.
CEOs of Zepto and Blinkit shared how their platforms witnessed record sales during the match on X, formerly Twitter. While Blinkit CEO Albinder Dhindsa is known to share; in a first, Aadit Palicha, cofounder and chief executive of Zepto, too shared about the record sales that Zepto recorded on the day. He also ‘thanked’ Blinkit CEO Dhindsa for the ‘inspiration’. “Taking a page out of my friend @albinder’s book and shaking off my social media shyness :),” posted Palicha.
His and Dhindsa’s other tweets shared the mood of cricket fans across the country on that day.
“We’re set to see our best day ever with between 4 to 5 lakh orders for the day. This will surpass our recently set record, during Diwali, where we saw just over 4 lakh orders,” Palicha posted on microblogging site X during the course of the match. “Serious hype at Zepto HQ right now – we’ve delivered 100,000+ cans of Thums Up for free today and the game hasn’t even started!” wrote Palicha. “India’s religious side is starting to show! Sales of puja flowers are through the roof today compared to a regular Sunday.We thought it was because of Chhath Puja, but there’s been a major spike since the match started 😉,” wrote Palicha in another tweet.

Chips and India jerseys all the way on Blinkit
“Orders with chips always peak on days when India is playing. Currently on track to hit a new all time high of chips sales on @letsblinkit today🚀,” posted Dhindsa.

“Working with @adidas this world cup season was a good decision. Love that we could help so many fans watch the world cup in their team India fan jersey 💛 Specially today for #INDvsAUS. Chart with jersey sales today vs semifinals day👇,” wrote Dhindsa in another post.
