Elon Musk has trained his guns on Disney CEO Bob Iger once again. Last week at an event, Iger had notably said that he wouldn’t want to associate Disney with X and stopped advertising. The reason? Musk had endorsed some antisemitic posts. “We just felt that the association with… Elon Musk and X was not necessarily a positive one for us,” Iger said.
Musk, at the same event, dropped F-bombs when asked about advertisers’ boycott, including Disney. He name checked Iger and said that “if anyone thinks they can blackmail him over money? F**k you”. Disney, Apple and close to 100 advertisers had stopped advertising on X after Musk’s post. Having said that, at the same event, Musk did apologise for replying to certain posts.
Now, Musk has taken many potshots at Iger. In a series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, tech mogul Elon Musk called for the immediate firing of Disney CEO Bob Iger. The public attack comes amidst a tense relationship between the two companies, stemming from Disney’s decision to pull its advertising from X. “He should be fired immediately. Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company,” Musk said in a tweet.
No ads on X, more ads on Meta platforms
Musk pointed to the recent lawsuit filed against Meta, Facebook’s parent company, alleging its platforms are not doing enough to protect children. He criticised Iger for continuing to advertise on Meta despite these accusations. “Why no advertiser boycott, Bob Eiger? You are endorsing this material!” Musk said in another post on X.
He further responded to quite a few memes on Disney and Iger. Musk also made broader attacks on Iger’s leadership of Disney, accusing him of causing Walt Disney to “turn in his grave” due to the company’s performance.
Disney has not yet issued a formal response to Musk’s accusations. However, it is important to note that the company has faced criticism for its advertising practices in the past.
