The year 2023’s biggest sale is here. Both Amazon and Flipkart have announced the dates of their biggest sales of the year — Amazon Great Indian Festival sale and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale. The annual festive sales start every year just days before Diwali. Till a few years back they started on the first day of Navratri. However, since 2021, the two e-tailers, Amazon and Flipkart, have forwarded their sale days. The sales are huge as Diwali is one of the biggest festivals in India.
What are the sale dates
Amazon Great Indian Festival sale and Flipkart’s Big Billion Days sale starts on October 8. Amazon Great Indian Festival sale was initially scheduled to start on October 10, but Amazon preponed it to the same day as Flipkart. Again, not the first time. Last year too, Amazon pushed its sale ahead to match it with Flipkart. The announcement came a few hours after rival Flipkart said its main festive sales, Big Billion Days, will start on October 8.
Not just Flipkart and Amazon, Jio and more
Not just Flipkart and Amazon India; JioMart, Ajio and Tata Neu are all expected to roll out attractive offers across categories. Meesho said its ‘Mega Blockbuster Sale’ will kick off on October 6.
What makes the sale important
The festive season sale is an important event for both the companies, as it accounts for a significant chunk of their annual sales, just as it does for their rivals and other companies in general. Diwali time generally is the biggest purchase season in India. According to a Redseer report, ecommerce sales are expected to grow 18-20% to around $11 billion during the festive season, with at least 140 million shoppers expected to transact online. ET reported on October 3 last year that Flipkart saw its sales grow by over 25% during the Big Billion Days sale compared to 2021. Amazon, too, reported robust growth, saying its sellers received more orders in the 2022 festive season compared with 2021.
