In a forceful response to the tragic loss of three American service members in a drone strike in Jordan, former President Donald Trump sharply criticized President Biden and his administration. The attack, which occurred near the Syrian border, also left over 25 others injured. Trump expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers on his Truth Social page, describing the event as a “horrible day for America.”
Trump’s critique centered on Biden’s foreign policy, attributing the attack to what he perceives as Biden’s weakness and a departure from his own administration’s “Maximum Pressure” policy on Iran. He accused Biden of empowering Iran by providing financial resources, which, according to Trump, have been used to fuel violence in the Middle East.
The former president asserted that such an attack would not have occurred under his presidency, linking it to a broader critique of Biden’s international policies, including the situation in Ukraine and the broader stability of global peace.
“This attack would NEVER have happened if I was President, not even a chance – Just like the Iranian-backed Hamas attack on Israel would never have happened, the War in Ukraine would never have happened, and we would right now have Peace throughout the World. Instead, we are on the brink of World War 3,” Trump wrote.
In the aftermath of the attack, prominent Republicans, including Senator Tim Scott and Rep. Mike Rogers, echoed Trump’s sentiments, demanding a firmer stance against Iran and its proxy forces. They called for decisive action and accountability for the attacks on US and coalition forces.
This incident marks a significant moment, being the first time US troops have been killed by enemy fire in the Middle East since the onset of the Israel-Hamas conflict in early October.
The intensifying conflict in the Middle East presents a significant challenge for President Biden during an election year. Republican leaders, including former President Donald Trump, have been quick to criticize Biden for the recent fatal incident, with Trump attributing it to what he termed as “Joe Biden’s weakness and surrender.”
The Pentagon reports that since mid-October, over 150 attacks have targeted US and allied forces in Iraq and Syria, prompting retaliatory actions by the US in both nations.
Many assaults on US forces have been attributed to the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, a coalition of groups with ties to Iran that are opposed to the US’s backing of Israel in the Gaza conflict.
The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict escalated with a surprise attack by the Palestinian militant group on October 7, leading to approximately 1,140 fatalities, predominantly civilians.
In response, the US expedited military support to Israel, which has been conducting an intense military campaign resulting in the deaths of at least 26,422 individuals in Gaza, primarily women and children, as per reports from the Gaza health ministry.
These casualties have ignited widespread outrage in the region and fueled violent activities by Iran-supported factions in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.
