NEW DELHI: At least four individuals lost their lives and 12 others sustained injuries in a tragic fire incident at a residential building in Hong Kong‘s busy Kowloon district during the morning rush hour on Wednesday.
Police said that they were still receiving calls from people inside the building asking for help. According to authorities, firefighters swiftly responded to the emergency at 7:53 am.
Local media and the South China Morning Post reported that the fire had broken out at a gym on the first floor but was promptly controlled. The situation is under investigation.
Those trapped inside the building used towels to signal for help, while the fire, which originated in a gym, led to the closure of surrounding roads.
The blaze, classified as a level three emergency, was extinguished by 8:54 am following the prompt response of the fire services in Jordan.
