Fresh bout of snowfall in Kashmir delighted both locals and tourists alike after long delay. The state’s economy is heavily dependent on tourism industry and hence snowfall serves the purpose of attracting tourists to the glistening silver valley.
The India Meteorological Department forecasted possibility of light to moderate rain or snow at many places of the Union Territory. Heavy snowfall is expected over a few places like Kupwara, Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Shopian, Kulgam and Anantnag districts over the next two days. Government has issued advisories to tourists and locals visiting places like Sonamarg and Gulmarg.

Furthermore, the weather department has issued orange and yellow alert for severe cold wave and extremely heavy rainfall in several states of Northern India. Western Himalayan region will see wet spell from 29 January to 3 February, with possibility of heavy rainfalls on 30 and 31 January.
