Donald Trump Jr has expressed strong opposition to the possibility of Indian-American Nikki Haley being chosen as his father’s vice presidential candidate. He emphasized his determination to prevent Haley from securing the position, criticizing her as a proponent of endless wars and a puppet of the Washington establishment. Trump Jr highlighted Haley’s recent rise in GOP primary polls, where she has closed in on Donald Trump, but dismissed her as the establishment’s preferred candidate.
Haley’s tenure as Trump’s US ambassador to the UN and her recent surge in popularity have fueled speculation about her potential vice-presidential candidacy. However, she has downplayed such aspirations, focusing instead on her own political ambitions. Trump Jr noted her criticism of his father, associating Trump with chaos and drama.
While Trump Jr and others in Trump’s circle, like Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene, have voiced strong objections to Haley, Lara Trump, Trump Jr’s sister-in-law, has not ruled out the possibility of a Trump-Haley ticket. Donald Trump himself has remained largely silent on his choice of running mate, following a previous fallout with former Vice President Mike Pence.
The Trump family’s influence on such decisions is notable, as seen in past instances like Jared Kushner’s alleged role in blocking Chris Christie from a prominent position in Trump’s administration. The upcoming CNN debate between Haley and Florida governor Ron DeSantis, ahead of the Iowa caucuses, is expected to be a significant event in the lead-up to the 2024 election.
“I wouldn’t have her and I would go to great lengths to make sure that that doesn’t happen,” Trump Jr said in a recent interview with Newsmax’s Eric Bolling, underscoring his firm stance against Haley’s potential vice-presidential nomination.
Meanwhile, Vivek Ramaswamy has said that he is not a “Plan B person”, rejecting outright the idea or speculation of his joining the Trump cabinet in any official capacity if the former President retake the White House from Joe Biden in 2024.
Both Indian-American presidential hopefuls Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy expressed their disagreement with the Colorado Supreme Court’s recent decision to bar Donald Trump from running for the presidency in the state next year. This ruling, which disqualifies the 77-year-old ex-president, stems from his involvement in the 2021 Capitol attack.
The court’s decision invoked the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. This amendment prohibits officials who have sworn to uphold the Constitution from holding future office if they have participated in an insurrection.
Despite this setback, Trump remains the leading candidate in the Republican Party’s nomination race for the 2024 presidential election.
