After an air strike attributed to Israel by Tehran destroyed an Iran consulate building in Damascus and killed 12 people including senior military commanders, India said on Thursday that it’s stressed at the escalating tensions in the region and urged all parties to avoid any action that violated international law.
The remarks by the Indian foreign ministry followed a meeting a day earlier between NSA Ajit Doval and his Iranian counterpart Ali Akbar Ahmadian in Kazakhstan in which, according to an Iranian readout, he expressed condolences over the “martyrdom of Iranian advisors”.
“We have noted with concern the attack on Iranian diplomatic premises in Syria on April 1. India is distressed at the escalating tensions in West Asia, and their potential to fuel further violence,” said MEA spokesman Randhir Jaiswal.
According to Iran, at the Doval-Ahmadian meet, the two sides agreed that attacking diplomatic places should be “costly for criminals”.
