“I am stepping aside from active politics and there is no reason other than the fact that it no longer interests me as much,” Rane wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Rane, a former Lok Sabha MP, said that in 2019-’20, he had received a lot of love from the people for which he is very grateful and he feels fortunate that he got an opportunity to work in an organisation like the BJP.

“I learned a lot in politics and some colleagues have become a family forever, I will always be indebted to them in life,” he wrote, adding that he has no interest in contesting elections anymore.

He further pointed out that critics will always criticise him but he would not like to waste his and other people’s time. In his post, he also extended his apology to the people who may have suffered any inconvenience or may have felt offended due to any mistake of his.

Rane’s brother, Nitesh N Rane is the current MLA from the Kankavli constituency in Maharashtra.

Nilesh Rane was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg constituency of Maharashtra as a member of the Indian National Congress, according to ANI.

He contested from the same constituency in 2014 but lost to Shiv Sena’s Vinayak Raut. He later joined the BJP.

His father, Narayan Rane, currently serves as the minister of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) in the Narendra Modi-led Cabinet at the Centre.
