NEW DELHI: Terrorists targeted a police station in Pakistan‘s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, resulting in the loss of twenty three security personnel lives and injuring several others, as reported by the police. The Daraban police station, situated in a remote area of the troubled Dera Ismail Khan district near the South Waziristan tribal district, was attacked by terrorists who drove an explosive-laden vehicle into the station building, followed by a mortar attack.
Amidst the ensuing exchange of gunfire between security forces and the attackers, atleast twenty three security personnel lost their lives, and many sustained injuries, according to police sources.The ARY News channel also reported that two terrorists were neutralized by the police during the gunfight.
The police station’s roof also collapsed due to the attack.
In response to the attack, additional police forces were swiftly deployed to the scene, as confirmed by the police. The injured were transferred to DI Khan Hospital, as stated by the police. It was further reported that Daraban Tehsil has been entirely sealed off. District hospitals declared an emergency, and as a precautionary measure, all schools and colleges were closed following the incident.
Violence has surged in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, marked by a series of deadly attacks. In January, a mosque in Peshawar was targeted by a suicide bomber, resulting in the tragic death of at least 101 individuals.
