NEW DELHI: Amazon‘s voice assistant Alexa said that the 2020 US Presidential election “was stolen”, an unproven claim that was made by former President Donald Trump after losing to Joe Biden.
When asked about the fraud in the presidential race, Alexa said that the election was “stolen by a massive amount of election fraud”, The Washington Post reported.
It cited Rumble, a video-streaming service favored by conservatives, as the source.
“The 2020 races were notorious for many incidents of irregularities and indications pointing to electoral fraud taking place in major metro centers,” according to Alexa, referencing Substack, a subscription newsletter service.
Alexa also said that Trump won Pennsylvania whereas it was Biden who won the state.
Despite numerous investigations into the 2020 election, there has been no evidence of fraud.
Interestingly, Amazon promotes its voice-activated assistant as a dependable source for election news to an estimated user base of over 70 million.
The responses by the popular voice assistant comes amid existing concerns about the rise of artificial intelligence and its possible misuse in spreading fabricated and false information.
Meanwhile, Amazon declined to explain why its voice assistant draws 2020 election answers from unvetted sources, the report said.
“These responses were errors that were delivered a small number of times, and quickly fixed when brought to our attention,” Amazon spokeswoman Lauren Raemhild said in a statement. “We continually audit and improve the systems we have in place for detecting and blocking inaccurate content.”
