NEW DELHI: A 53-year-old passenger on an Air New Zealand flight faced fines and charges after urinating into a cup during a delay in deplaning. The incident occurred on a flight from Auckland to Sydney Airport on December 30, as reported by Stuff.
The incident came to public attention only after a passenger in the same row reported the behavior to the aircrew.Holly, accompanied by her 15-year-old daughter, occupied the aisle and middle seats, while the man seated in the window seat, whose identity has not been disclosed, was observed urinating into a cup.
Holly recounted the uncomfortable situation, saying, “We distinctly heard him. There was no mistaking the sound, and it was incredibly obvious. He exposed himself next to us on at least three occasions. It’s absolutely revolting.”
The passenger reported that the aircraft had been parked on the tarmac for around 20 minutes, awaiting allocation of a terminal gate, when she heard the man urinate into a cup.
“And it seemed that since we had shifted, he then rose after us, carrying yet another full cup. Presumably, he intended to dispose of it in the restroom. However, as he walked, clearly intoxicated by this point, he accidentally spilled a significant portion of his urine onto the flight attendant at the rear of the plane, due to a stumble. Subsequently, he entered the restroom. We had informed the crew of what had transpired, or at least what we assumed had occurred, and this was further confirmed by his possession of a cup of urine, with half of it spilled on her,” she added further.
Holly said that the plane experienced additional delays as it waited for the Australian Federal Police to arrive. An Australian Federal Police (AFP) spokesperson informed 1News that officers escorted the passenger off the plane due to his disruptive behavior.
The Australian Federal Police informed Stuff Travel that the man was charged with acting in an offensive or disorderly manner affecting safety. Additionally, a Sydney court imposed a fine of 600 Australian dollars ($395) on the man for his offensive behavior.
Air New Zealand stated that it implements bans on between five and 10 customers per month due to disruptive behavior, which may include intoxication.
