China has reacted strongly after the UK parliament referred to Taiwan as an ‘independent country.’ The UK Parliament mentioned Taiwan’s status for the first time in an official document published by the influential foreign affairs committee of the House of Commons amid Foreign Secretary James Cleverly’s visit to Beijing. The Chinese foreign ministry said, “The [British] report mentioning Taiwan’s independence contradicts the facts. Beijing also calls on London to adhere to the ‘One China’ principle.
