Koyambedu marketplace remains stable at Rs. 160 per kg – indiansupdate.com

Due to a lack of supply, the cost of tomatoes at the Koyambedu marketplace remains stable at Rs. 160 per kg. This has led to high prices, with tomatoes being sold at a wholesale price of Rs. 160 per kg and a retail price of Rs. 180 per kg as of yesterday.

The increased prices have resulted in a significant decrease in the number of people buying tomatoes. Even those who do come to purchase tomatoes are buying smaller quantities. Retailers in the market have observed that 2 or 3 people are pooling together to buy a kilo of tomatoes.

In certain locations, the retail price has surged to Rs. 200 per kg. However, farm green shops and fair price shops continue to sell tomatoes at the usual price of Rs. 60 per kg.

Tomato supply from neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka has not increased yet. Some tomatoes originate from other regions of Tamil Nadu to suit the need in Chennai. Wholesalers predict that it will take around a month for tomato prices to decrease.
