Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu visited strategic zones in the Arctic. Shoigu inspected troops deployed in the region as well as preparations to defend “specially important installations”. Shoigu was accompanied by the head of Russian State Nuclear Corporation Rosatom. Shoigu also flew over the Central Test Site over Novaya Zemlya. From 1954 to 1990, the site was used for 132 atmospheric, underground, underwater, surface nuclear weapons tests.
