Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended Raksha Bandhan greetings on Tuesday, asserting that the reduction in cooking gas price will make the lives of women easier.
“The festival of Raksha Bandhan is a day to increase happiness in a family. The reduction in gas prices will increase the comfort of the sisters in my family and make their lives easier. May every sister of mine be happy, be healthy, be happy, this is my wish from God,” he tweeted.
The Central government had announced a significant reduction in cooking gas prices on Tuesday afternoon.
Earlier in the day Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur had dubbed it a ‘gift’ from the PM on to the women of India on Onam and Raksha Bandhan.
The across-the-board cut of ₹200 is separate from existing targeted subsidy of ₹200 per cylinder to Ujjwala households. Following the announcement the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder has dropped from ₹1,103 to ₹903 per cylinder in the national capital. The effective price in Delhi for Ujjwala beneficiaries after this reduction will be ₹703.
“…PM Modi as a gift to crores of women, reduced the price of Gas cylinders by ₹200, this is a very important thing for women…Ujjwala scheme beneficiaries already get ₹200 subsidy and now they will get a subsidy of ₹400…I believe this is going to bring a great amount of relief to the women of the country,” said Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
“I express gratitude to PM Modi for the unique gift given to our sisters…On the opposition’s comments on this, I want to say that it will be beneficial for the country if the opposition continues to hold their meetings…Jo khud besahara hai aur sahare ki talash mein hai mein unke baare mein kya kahun,” added fellow lawmaker Smriti Irani.
