Bhubaneswar: Odisha governor Ganeshi Lal has appointed Ashish Ghosh as director, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Bhubaneswar. Ghosh is now working as a professor and project director, Technology Innovation Hub, Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata.

Ghosh will work for a period of five years with effect from the date he assumes office as such or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He has 28 years of teaching experience. He has authored 10 books and guided 10 PhD scholars, said the official sources.
The institute was registered as a society in November 2006. In January 2014, the institute was converted to a university by the Odisha government. The institution situated at Gothapatna in the city offers several courses under its five departments.

Ghosh told TOI that he will improve the quality of the institute by motivating students and teachers to focus on education and research works. He will try to work on innovation and incubation aspects of the institute. Priority will be given on creating linkage with industries, he added.
He said they will also try to improve the placement scenario so that the students can get jobs immediately after completing their education.
“We are managing a big project of the Central government. During the last three years, I have created linkage with the industries. This link and experience will help me to work on innovation and startup things,” said the professor.
Ghosh further stated that he has been conducting research on artificial intelligence (AI) since 1987. “My decades-long experience of teaching and research on AI, data analytics, machine learning and other deep tech courses will help the students of IIIT Bhubaneswar,” he added.
He will also collaborate with top institutes like IIT and other technical institutions for education and research purposes.
