ISRO Advances Towards Lunar Mission Success
The Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft’s fourth orbit-raising mission was successfully carried out by the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro).
Thursday saw the announcement by ISRO of this important breakthrough, which represents an important milestone in India’s planned lunar expedition.
Earth-bound perigee firing, often known as the manoeuvre, was executed from Bengaluru’s Isro Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC). This accomplishment brings Chandrayaan-3 one step closer to reaching its final destination—the Moon. As part of continuing mission activities, the following fire is planned for July 25, 2023, between 2 and 3 p.m. IST.
On July 14, 2023, the Satish Dhawan Space Centre launched Chandrayaan-3 upon an LVM3-M4 rocket.
The satellite was accurately inserted into its planned orbit 17 minutes after liftoff. The fourth orbit-raising manoeuvre was successfully carried out after the third, which was also carried out successfully earlier this week.
Isro would continue to constantly monitor and operate the spacecraft from ISTRAC, said project director P Veeramuthuvel.
Scientific equipment for studying several features of the lunar surface is aboard Chandrayaan-3. These include the elemental composition close to the landing location on the Moon, the lunar surface plasma environment, the lunar seismicity, and the thermophysical characteristics of the lunar regolith.
Following the fourth successful orbit-raising manoeuvre, ISRO certifies the orbit parameters.
On Thursday, July 20, the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft successfully completed its fourth orbit-raising manoeuvre, according to ISRO. Furthermore, the space agency verified its modified orbital parameters. The spacecraft will be 233 kilometres from Earth at its closest and 71,351 miles away at its furthest in its most recent orbit.
