Dal lake fire news: A massive fire broke out in several houseboats in Kashmir’s famous Dal Lake in the early morning on Saturday. At least five houseboats and three huts were damaged, the official said as reported by PTI.
As per Kashmir Reader report, the fire erupted in one of the houseboats near Ghat number 9 and spread to others before being controlled. As per initial reports, at least half a dozen houseboats have been damaged due to the fire. Fire services reached after several houseboats gutted in a massive fire in Dal Lake.
Officials also told PTI that there was no loss of life reported in the incident. According to an official of the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the fire broke out near Ghat number 9 of Dal Lake at around 5.15 am.
In the meantime, this fire also occurred right before Kashmir’s tourism season opens. One of the most popular things to do in the area is to stay in houseboats.
Yesterday, many areas, especially the higher reaches, of Kashmir received snowfall while rains lashed the plains, leading to the closure of national highways connecting the valley with the rest of the country, officials said as reported by PTI. Light to moderate snowfall and rain are going on over the higher reaches at most places of Jammu and Kashmir, the Meteorological Department officials said. The weather department also added that light snowfall was recorded in many areas in the plains as well.
As per the official, the higher reaches which received snowfall included the famous tourist destination of Gulmarg, Gurez, Sonamarg, Zojilla Axis, Sadhna Pass, Machil, Pharkian Gali, Razdan Top, Z-Gali, Sinthan Pass, and Margan Top.
They further added that the inclement weather led to the closure of vital roads connecting various far-off places with Srinagar as well as national highways connecting the valley with the rest of the country. The Srinagar-Jammu national highway, the only all-weather road link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the country was closed for traffic due to landslides in Ramban. Moreover, Mughal Road, the valley’s alternate road link with Jammu was also closed for traffic, officials said.
The Srinagar-Leh highway was shut for traffic due to snowfall and slippery conditions along the Zojilla Axis, the officials said. The Gurez-Bandipora road, as well the Sinthan Top were also closed for traffic due to the accumulation of snow.
Meanwhile, the MeT office predicted that from November 11 to 17, the weather would stay mainly dry with warmer days.
