Popular streaming platform Twitch has reportedly cut more jobs. This is the second round of layoffs in the company in 2023. Earlier this year, Amazon had nearly 9,000 employees which affected 400 Twitch staff. Now, the platform is expected to cut nearly 400 more people just before the TwitchCon event which is set to be held in Las Vegas on October 20.
The latest round of layoffs were first reported by an X user named Zach Bussey (spotted by GamesIndustry.biz). Bussey highlighted that this round was “significantly smaller” than the earlier layoffs but still “unexpected.” Twitch hasn’t confirmed the fresh round of layoffs yet. The video-streaming service is not only used by gamers but also by other content creators as well.
As per the report, these latest cuts were limited to the customer experience department. Twitch is reportedly planning to outsource these roles to external vendors by replacing in-house positions.

In March, Amazon fired 400 Twitch employees and replaced the company’s founder CEO Emmett Shear with Dan Clancy. The company’s current CEO said that these layoffs were required to keep Twitch running for long-term, amid growing competition in the streaming market from the likes of Kick and YouTube. However, that didn’t seem to have changed the scenario.
“Given the uncertain economy in which we reside, and the uncertainty that exists in the near future, we have chosen to be more streamlined in our costs and headcount,” Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said at that time.
Gaming industry layoffs continue
Twitch layoffs are the latest in a list of gaming industry jobs that are expected to be hit in the coming days. The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog has also reportedly cut their staff and has paused the production on the multiplayer spin-off title, reports Kotaku.
